Children’s Advocacy Center

What is the Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC)?

Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) stress a child-focused multidisciplinary approach to investigation, prosecution, and treatment of child abuse cases. The CAC that serves the YK Delta is called the Irniamta Ikayurviat “A place to help Children”.  Alaska consistently struggles with some of the highest rates of child abuse in the nation. Every day, our Child Advocacy Centers (CACs) strive to support healing for children and to hold offenders accountable. A CAC is a safe place where a child and their protective caregiver can visit to address a concern of serious abuse. At a CAC, they can receive wraparound services from a team of professionals- such as a child-friendly forensic interview, medical evaluation, safety planning by child protection, referrals to behavioral health and other services, investigation of the crime by law enforcement and prosecution, and support with navigating through the overall process.
